Queers Who Don’t Quit-Submission Call for Short Queer Stories
We’re looking for any short stories that fit into the theme Queers Who Don’t Quit.
Got a story of a poly triad plotting the heist that’s finally gonna go right? Your ace character mooning over the trans guy at school and always getting caught with a dopey smile? Have a short tale about an enby journalist who’s just been fired for their story that’s shaken up the political world and needs a pick me up from their found family? Have a genderfluid vigilante who just can’t stop themself from getting back to the streets even when injured, much to the chagrin of their queerplatonic partner who just wants them home with their rainbow family?
Hit us with it.
What We Are Looking For
Queer stories not normally given a platform! One of the main characters must identify as queer. This can mean they are aromantic, asexual, trans, genderqueer, genderfluid, non-binary, intersex, demi, bi, pan, lesbian, gay–if they’re queer, we want them! We are especially interested in stories with characters who rarely hit mainstream. Ace, aro, demi, enby, trans, genderfluid, intersex, pan, poly!
We are looking for previously unpublished stories.
Work limit: 1,000-10,000 words.
September 1st, 2019.
Writers whose stories are selected for the anthology will receive a one-time payment of $US 40 (via PayPal), plus an e-book of it in epub, mobi, and pdf.
Own Voices and Sensitivity Reading in Your Queer Anthology Submission
Considering mainstream exploitation of marginalized identities by writers who do not share the identities of their most marginalized characters, we strive to centre own voice writers. This said, we will never ask someone to out themselves as writing as own voice. Please just know that if we are unsure if the story is written in own voice, this can mean your story may be sent through a sensitivity read. All authors will need to be willing to work with a sensitivity reader if the need arises. You can read more about sensitivity readers here: ooligan.pdx.edu/sense-and-sensitivity
If your story is not own voice, please consider using a sensitivity reader before submission (this should be considered as part of submitting a manuscript at the point at which “it is as ready as it can be”). Be aware of the POV you are using.
Send your story as an email attachment in .doc, .docx, or .rtf format to firstname.lastname@example.org. In the body of your email, include your name, story title, word count, a two or three-sentence summary, and tell us why you and your story are a fit for Queer Pack.
For more information please read our Submission Guidelines.
We’re looking forward to your submissions!
